About Class

Three-Series Movement Workshops with KEI TSURUHARATANI: Vast Range of Horizontal and Vertical JAN 7 - Series 1 // "This Body, Lying down" To establish a foundational understanding of the richness of movement possibilities while lying down, emphasizing the connection between the body and the weight. Cultivating kindness and sensitivity through moving softly. JAN 21 - Series 2 // Weight and Location Explore the dynamics of movement in a sitting position, incorporating floor and chair. JAN 28 - Series 3 // Breathing Movement To explore the interconnectedness of breath and motion, using breath as a signpost to check-in. Kei Tsuruharatani (she/they) is a dance artist and educator of trans experience from Osaka, Japan, based in NYC. She earned BA in dance and theater from SUNY Empire State College focusing on unlearning oppression in the art form, and MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) teacher qualification from Brown University. Her mindfulness practice is rooted in Vipassana (insight) meditation within Theravada Buddhist tradition specifically rooted in Burma. They have performed on Broadway — the King and I, Miss Saigon, and Jagged Little Pill — and danced at the Metropolitan Opera for six years.
