About the event
In September of 2021, a small audience witnessed OPEN ENDED, a series of works in process. Fast forward to 2022, Open Space is thrilled to present [boundaries], Franco Nieto's first commissioned piece! Nieto’s work is physical, raw, and playfully emotional. Nieto has brought together a crew of dancers that represents contemporary dance that is here and now, from across the nation including: Colleen Loverde (LED), Kristalyn Gill (Yin YueDance Company), Michael Arellano (Whim W’him), Tony Carnell (LED), Noelle Kayser (Para Mar Dance Theater).
A note from the director, Franco Niteo:
[boundaries] will premier at the National High School Dance Festival on February 25th, 2022. As one of America's newest dance companies, we’re honored to have been asked to open the festival. The festival organizers really resonated with the fact that this year's festival is at my alma mater, the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics (VSAA), and that even in dark places and dark times, creation is possible. What’s more special to me is that this is the very same festival that inspired me to choose dance as a profession when I attended as a teenager. I can’t wait to inspire the next generation of dancers with this work. I look forward to seeing you FEB 26th for the weekend premier of [boundaries]!!!
