TUESDAYS // 10:00 - 11:30am Open Ballet For Movers // LeeWei Chao Advanced Professional Level Ballet for MOVERS!! Come feel good in YOUR BODY. The class is based on classical ballet techniques and then build up their range of movements and styles. Guest Artists Coming Soon! January 6 - Ching Ching Wong January 13 - Andrew Champlin Originally from Portland, Andrew Champlin is a Bessie-nominated dancer and arts educator based in Berlin, Germany. He trained in classical ballet at leading programs including Oregon Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and the School of American Ballet, and later earned a BA in Liberal Arts from The New School. He has danced professionally with Oregon Ballet Theatre, Pam Tanowitz Dance, Christopher Williams Dance, Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People, the David Gordon Pick Up Company, and the Merce Cunningham Trust. He has also worked extensively in New York City’s experimental dance scene, where he studied with and became an assistant to the late ballet teacher Janet Panetta. Alongside his performance practice, he teaches internationally at dance companies, universities, and cultural institutions across Europe, including at Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Norrdans, Cullberg, and ImPulsTanz Vienna international dance festival. LeeWei Chao started his ballet training with Ms. Xiao Lee, who brought from Russia the Vaganova ballet method to Taiwan. In 1996 Mr. Chao joined Joffrey Ballet Concert Dancer in New York City, followed by dancing carrier with Joffrey Ballet Chicago and Milwaukee Ballet Company. Mr. Chao has taught at Alonzo King LINES Ballet, LINES Ballet BFA Program, Stanford University, ODC Dance San Francisco, Smuin Ballet company and among the others. Mr. Chao was featured in August 2018 issue of Dance Teacher Magazine. He is currently a faculty member with Oregon Ballet Theater and NW Dance Project since 2018.
