Baby Artists

Ages 2 - 3

Space Tots 

Space Tots  is a 30 minute “grown up + me” dance class for children ages 2 and 3. No classroom experience is required. The youngest dancers in The School at Open Space will experience the joy of movement as they explore levels, dimension, pathways and dynamics by dancing with their grown up and peers.

 

Space Tots runs in 6-week sessions. There is no performance at the end of the session.

 

No prior experience is necessary for the child or adult. 

 

DRESS CODE // SPACE TOTS:

  • Movement friendly clothing (you will be crawling + rolling!)

  • Socks or bare feet

Little  Artists

Ages 3 - 6

Creative Movement (Ages 3-5)

Creative Movement is a 45 minute class for preschool aged dancers who are interested in movement. The youngest dancers in The School at Open Space will experience the joy of movement as they explore levels, dimension, pathways and dynamics through universal dance language. 

 

There is a small seating area in the studio, and we encourage an accompanying supportive adult to remain on campus for these classes as your dancer works toward independent participation. 

 

Creative Movement classes are open enrollment and dependent on age. No classroom experience is required.

 

Creative Movement Dress Code:

  • Any color leotard or form fitted shirt

  • Any color leggings or bike shorts

  • Bare feet

Creative Movement (Ages 5-6)

Little Artists Ballet is a 45 minute class for school aged dancers who are interested in dance and ballet. Dancers will explore the foundations of ballet technique through a traditional class structure that encourages creativity, curiosity and joy. This class establishes healthy rituals of ballet practices centered in music, group work, strength, mobility, coordination and improvisation. 

 

There is a small seating area in the studio if an accompanying adult wishes to remain on campus for this class. Independent participation is encouraged for this level.

  • Black canvas ballet slippers (with footed black tights or black dance socks) OR white ballet slippers with white dance socks OR flesh toned ballet slippers on bare ankles

Creative Jazz

(Ages 5-6)

This class emphasizes body awareness through strength, mobility, coordination and improvisation. This class pairs well with Level 1 Ballet and Level 1+2 hip hop, but enrollment in more than one class is not required. 

 

There is a small seating area in the studio if an accompanying adult wishes to remain on campus for this class. Independent participation is encouraged for this level. 

 

Level 1 Contemporary classes are open enrollment and dependent on age. This class is recommended for school aged children. No prior experience is necessary.

 

Level 1 Contemporary Dress Code:

  • Form fitted athletic dance wear in solid colors (no patterns or prints)Example: leggings, leotards, form fitted tanks or tops, bike shorts, athletic joggers

Level 1 + 2 Hip Hop

(Ages 6-8)

Level 1+ 2 Hip Hop is a one hour class for children ages 6 to 8 who are interested in street styles of dance. Dancers will explore various styles of hip hop in a developmentally and age appropriate environment utilizing language, movement and music. This class may be taken on its own, or in addition to Level 1 or 2 Ballet or Contemporary classes. 

 

Independent participation is required for this level. 

 

Level 1+2 Hip Hop classes are open enrollment and dependent on age. No prior experience is necessary.

 

Level 1 + 2 Hip Hop Dress Code:

  • CLEAN light soled shoes* (not to be worn outside of the studio). 

  • Movement friendly clothing 

*Dark soled shoes are not allowed on the dance floor. 

Little  Artists
Level 2

Ages 7 - 8

Level 2 Ballet 

(Ages 7-8)

Level 2 Ballet is a one-hour class for young dancers who are interested in dance and ballet. Level 1+ 2 Hip Hop is a one hour class for children ages 6 to 8 who are interested in street styles of dance. Dancers will explore various styles of hip hop in a developmentally and age appropriate environment utilizing language, movement and music. This class may be taken on its own, or in addition to Level 1 or 2 Ballet or Contemporary classes. 

 

Independent participation is required for this level. 

 

Level 1+2 Hip Hop classes are open enrollment and dependent on age. No prior experience is necessary.

 

Level 1 + 2 Hip Hop Dress Code:

  • CLEAN light soled shoes* (not to be worn outside of the studio). 

  • Movement friendly clothing 

*Dark soled shoes are not allowed on the dance floor. 

Little Artists
Level 3

Ages 8 - 12

Level 3 Ballet 

(Ages 8-12)

Level 3 Ballet consists of two one-hour classes per week. Dancers will explore the foundations of ballet technique through a traditional class structure that encourages creativity, curiosity and joy. This class establishes healthy rituals of ballet practices centered in music, group work, strength, mobility, coordination and choreography. It is strongly advised that these classes are paired with either Level 3 Contemporary or Level 3+4 hip hop, but enrollment in additional classes is not required.

 

Previous experience is recommended. Faculty placement is required for enrollment. 

 

Level 3 Ballet Dress Code:

Dancers may choose between the following apparel options:

  • Black leotard

  • Black mid-thigh length ballet skirt (no tutus) OR fitted black bike shorts 

  • Pink or flesh toned tights

  • Pink or flesh toned ballet slippers

Dancers will explore jazz, modern and contemporary forms through a traditional class structure that encourages creativity, curiosity and joy. This class emphasizes body awareness through strength, mobility, coordination and improvisation. It is strongly advised that this class is taken in addition to Level 3 Ballet, but it is not required. This class also pairs well with Level 3+4 hip hop. 

 

Level 3 Contemporary classes are open enrollment and dependent on age. Previous experience is recommended but not required.

Little Artists
Level 4

Ages 9 - 13

Level 4 Ballet 

(Ages 9-12)

Level 4 Ballet consists of two seventy five minute ballet classes per week. Dancers will explore the foundations of ballet technique through a traditional class structure that encourages creativity, curiosity and joy. This class establishes healthy rituals of ballet practices centered in music, group work, strength, mobility, coordination and choreography. It is strongly advised that these classes are paired with either Level 4 Contemporary or Level 3+4 hip hop (or both!), but enrollment in additional classes is not required.

 

Previous experience is recommended. Faculty placement is required for enrollment. 

 

Level 4 Ballet Dress Code:

Dancers may choose between the following apparel options:

  • Black leotard

  • Black mid-thigh length ballet skirt (no tutus) OR fitted black bike shorts 

  • Pink or flesh toned tights

  • Pink or flesh toned ballet slippers

Junior Artists
Level 5

Ages 11 - 16

Level 5 Ballet &

Contemporary 

(Ages 11-16)

At this level, dancers are expected to enroll in all classes listed for their level. Pointe is optional and dependent on anatomical structure and dancer readiness. Dancers may be selected to attend additional Level 6 classes at the Director’s discretion. Accommodations are possible in order to suit the individual needs of the dancer.

 

All classes are centered in the belief that dancers of all stages of their life should be able to move freely and explore their bodies in a judgment-free zone where curiosity is encouraged.

 

The Junior Artists Company is an additional fee to Level 5 tuition and provides rehearsal time for performances. 

 

Previous experience and faculty placement is required for enrollment. 

 

Level 5 Ballet Dress Code:

Dancers may choose between the following apparel options:

  • Black leotard

  • Black mid-thigh length ballet skirt OR fitted black bike shorts 

  • Pink or flesh toned tights

  • Pink or flesh toned ballet slippers

  • Pink or flesh toned pointe shoes with attached ribbons and elastic

 

OR

  • Opaque black ballet tights or fitted black bike shorts 

  • Fitted black or white shirt or leotard

  • Black canvas ballet slippers (with footed black tights or black dance socks) OR white ballet slippers with white dance socks OR flesh toned ballet slippers on bare ankles

 

Level 5 Contemporary Dress Code:

Young Artists
Level 6

Ages 14 - 20

Level 6 Ballet &

Contemporary 

(Ages 14-20)

At this level, dancers are expected to enroll in all classes listed for their level. Pointe is optional and dependent on anatomical structure and dancer readiness. Dancers may attend additional contemporary technique classes free of charge through the Open Space Adult Class Program.
